As the holidays and the end of the year are upon us, I have spent a good deal of time reflecting what I am most grateful for in my life. On behalf of The Sam Butler Callahan Foundation, I would like to express how grateful we are for all of our donors, supporters, volunteers and board members. Sam and his parents (Suzy and Derek) feel incredibly blessed to have the love and support that has been so evident since Sam embarked on his cancer journey. Sam has been able to stay focused on his health because of the strong community support that has gathered around him. Our fundraising events for 2011 have come to a close but I am happy to report that our recent activities have been a great success. In November, our good friends at Caper’s Restaurant held two events, a dinner service where 15% of the proceeds went to the Foundation and then a Golf Tournament where all of the money raised went to the Foundation. The combination of these two events raised $7,000! Then in early December, we held our first ever Sam’s Team Holiday Party at the Sonya Paz Fine Arts Gallery in downtown Campbell. We had a tremendous turnout. It was great to see so many friends attend and help kick off the holiday season. Sam was there and enjoyed visiting with the many people in attendance. We raised more than $6,500 at this event. What a wonderful result for this first-time event. Sam and I created the Foundation after he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma. We learned that childhood cancer is the most under-funded of all cancers. Our goal from the outset was to help provide funding for research and to assist others with the costs associate with traveling for treatment. With your support, we are starting to make a difference. We continue to raise funds for Ewing sarcoma research and we have also been able to assist the families of four patients being treated at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. We wish you all a joyful and safe 2012! Warm regards, Jeanne Butler Executive Director
Our gratitude goes to Caper's Restaurant for our dinner and golf tournament and to Brassfield Winery for donating the wine and The Sobrato Organization for underwriting the Sam's Team Holiday Party. |
